Antes que nada, quería anunciar formalmente en el blog que el 1/11, como estaba previsto, hice el sorteo del kit de makeup que estaba regalando por los 2 años de este espacio. Lo anuncié por facebook, pero no quería dejar de hacerlo por acá!

Muchísimas gracias a todas las que participaron... Sepan que anoté todas las sugerencias que hicieron y tengo intenciones de ir poniéndolas en práctica poco a poco.

Ahora, vamos al post de hoy! 

Como pasé mi cumpleaños acá en Roma, decidí combatir la nostalgia de estar lejos de casa con una jornada de paseo por el centro de esta increíble ciudad y, por qué no, haciendo un poco de SHOPPING! Había muchísima gente, al nivel de un hormiguero humano INTENSO... con lo cual me abstuve de entrar en algunas tiendas. Sin embargo, una de las cosas que compré y les muestro en el look de hoy son éstas calzas escocesas de Calzedonia. Para quien no conozca la marca, les cuento que se dedica expresamente a todo lo que es medias, mediecitas, zoquetes, medivachas, bucaneras y calzas, etc.
Los precios son un poco más altos que en otros locales (éstas las pagué €20) pero son de una calidad INCREIBLE. 

El escocés, como estampado y textura, está muy presente en las colecciones de otoño/invierno y me encanta porque agrega un elemento de color y expresión a los conjuntos a veces aburridos de la temporada. También sumé una bufanda de la misma onda que verán cuando haga un poco más de frío.

Now, onto today´s post!
Give I spent my birthday here in Rome, I decided to avoid all kinds of gloomy and homesick feelings by treating myself to a day of sightseeing and shopping. To be honest, the city was very crowded, so I avoided certain stores. However, I did purchase a really cute piece that I´m sporting today: these tartan leggings! I got them at Calzedonia, a store that specifically sells all kinds of socks… and well, of course, leggings! 
Prices are a bit higher than other stores (i paid €20 for these) but the quality and fit are remarkable. 
As some of you might have noticed already, the whole tartan print and texture is having a moment this season which I actually love! I think it adds a pop of color and attitude to the otherwise dull winter looks. I also got a very nice scarf in a similar style, but you´ll see that one when it gets colder!

Hace unos días Sorina, una chica que conocí acá en Bruselas, me preguntó sobre cómo se originan las tendencias. No entendía de dónde salía que un color, estampado, y/o textura se impusiera soberanamente sobre otros y sobresaliera más que nunca antes e invadiese de pronto el mercado. A lo que le comenté que entre los más grandes de la moda suele haber un consenso, acordado con mucha antelación sobre qué se va a usar en una determinada temporada, que incluye colores, texturas, siluetas, formas, etc. Claro está que cada maison después adapta el código conforme a su estructura, respetando su eje de diseño, su cliente, su calidad, etc. Luego, una vez que los grandes marcan el camino, empieza el efecto catarata, donde las tendencias que se postulan como más fuertes o populares empiezan a ser interpretadas por otras marcas, que de a poco le van bajando calidad, diseño y lo vuelven un producto masivo.

Tal es el caso de los buzos con estampa de animales… que empezó con Givenchy y sus Rottweilers y siguió con Kenzo y el buzo del tigre, o la parodia de las camisetas de diseñador como la de Celine, por nombrar algunos de los casos más emblemáticos.

Durante el último año he visto por todos lados a los felinos como grandes protagonistas… no sólo en buzos sino también bordados en zapatos, en simpáticos estampados y delineando accesorios.

Si bien soy más un dog-person me encantó ésta tendencia y me sumé con la compra de éste buzo. Como siempre, adaptándolo a mi estilo, clásico pero con un toque de color!

A few days ago Sorina, a girl I met here in Brussels, asked me about how fashion trends are originated. She didn´t comprehend how come some colors, textures and shapes stand out all at the same time, interpreted by different brands. So, I told her that, to my understanding, the big fashion houses agree on a certain code that will determine a certain season and that this is done way in advance. Then, once its decided, every maison adapts this to their own criteria, following the house´s guidelines, design structure, quality, and meeting customer expectations. Once the big names start to trace and show an aesthetic path, there are trends that stand out and become specially popular which of course is detected by the global market and that´s how those trends start making their way down to the mainstream clothing stores, compromising, of course quality and design, but giving you what you want.

Such was the case of the animal sweatshirts… they started with Givenchy´s Rottweiler, but continued with Kenzo´s tiger and why not with the fake design t-shirts like the Celine one, to just name a few of the main examples.

During the last year or so I´ve seen felines invade the fashion market… not only in sweatshirts, but also in shoes, on cute prints and shaping accessories.

While I´m more of a dog person I really liked this trend and decided to join by getting this sweatshirt I´m wearing today. Of course I had to adapt it to my own style, by keeping it classic and adding a pop of color!

BRUGGE

Al fin puedo decir que estuve turisteando un poco en Bélgica! 

El domingo recibí una sorpresa muy especial, mi hermana vino a visitarme 3 días! Con lo cual fue la perfecta excusa para salir a pasear un poco más.

Ayer fuimos a conocer la ciudad de Brujas. Ubicada tan sólo a una hora de Bruselas, parece un lugar salido de un cuento de hadas. Su arquitectura y naturaleza hacen de Brujas un lugar muy bonito y especial. Además, el clima acompañó y estuvo soleado todo el día!

Les dejo las fotos del look que usé para mi día de paseo, así como también algunas fotos que saqué del lugar. Espero que les guste!

At last I can finally say I´ve been going around Belgium a bit more... Behaving more like the tourist that I actually am!

On Sunday I was amazingly surprised, my sister came to visit me for three days! So, naturally, I had a great excuse to go out and check out new places. 

Yesterday we paid a visit to the city of Brugge. Located just one hour away from hectic Brussels it looks like a fairy tale type of town. It´s architechture and nature mixture make Brugge a very special and beautiful place to visit. Also, I was really lucky because it was sunny and warm all day!

COUCHER DE SOLEIL

Algo que me gusta mucho de Bruselas, al menos durante ésta época del año que me toca estar acá, es lo largo que es el día... El atardecer se hace desear y aparece recién alrededor de las 9pm. Me recuerda a mis vacaciones de cuando era chiquita... Con mi papá y mi hermana ibamos a El Bolsón a visitar a mi abuelo Willy, que vivía en una casa elevada en las laderas del Cerro Piltriquitrón. Ahí disfrutábamos semanas de días interminables, llenos de aventuras, recolección de frutas, paseos en gomón, pan casero, caminos de tierra, Willy tocando el piano, ferias artesanales, perros -y cachorritos!- de montaña , helados de Jauja y juegos de mesa, que casi siempre culminaban con unos atardeceres multicolores, cortesía del sol mientras se escondía tras los cerros. :) 

Éstas fotos fueron tomadas en el balcón de nuestro deptito. Un look muy media estación... Para esos dias que arrancan fresquitos y terminan cálidos.

Something that I really like about Brussels is how long the days are... of course during this time of the year, given it´s summer. The sunset takes its time to appear and it only does it as of 9pm onwards. For some reason, it reminds me of my summer holidays from when I was a little girl. With my dad and sister we´d go to El Bolson, a very unique and lovely small town in the south of argentina, next to the Andes Mountains. There lived Elwin, or like we called him Willy, my grandpa. I have the best memories of summer weeks spent there, where long days were enjoyed by going on adventures, collecting fresh fruits, eating home made bread, going on boat rides, driving on unpaved roads, Willy playing piano, visiting artisan markets, playing with mountain dogs -and puppies!-, having Jauja Ice Cream and playing family board games. Everyday would end with multicoloured sunsets, courtesy of the sun showing off its magic as it made its way behind the mountains. :)

These pictures I´m sharing today were shot at our small apartment´s balcony. A very mid-season like outfit... For those days that start off a bit chilly and make way to a warmer afternoon.

GIRL OF OZ

NIÑA DE OZ

Cuando tenía 11 años entré en un nuevo colegio, lo cual significaba todo un desafío, por supuesto. En mi caso fue un poco más difícil aún... ya que poco tiempo antes de que comenzaran las clases, en el cumpleaños de un amigo, tuve la mala fortuna que me mordiera su perro. ¿En dónde? En la boca... sí, sí... me imagino que les dará impresión de solo imaginarlo y está bien. Gracias a Dios la herida no fue tan grave y me cosieron muy bien en la guardia. El único problema para mí, una vez que la tormenta pasó, fue que entraba al colegio con los puntos A LA VISTA. Lo cual suponía un motivo de exposición a la burla y una invitación a la inseguridad... Dentro de todo, me las arreglé bastante bien y "zafé" del ojo crítico -que muchas veces los niños pueden tener y usar cruelmente-. Ahora, se preguntarán, por qué escribo todo esto... Continúo: sucedió que pocos meses después de empezar las clases, anunciaron las "auditions" para los distintos papeles a ocupar en la obra de primaria de ese año: "The Wizard of Oz". No sé si fue el hambre de ser popstar inculcado por el veneno de Britney y los BSB o el poder que inspiraba Alanis Morissette en canciones que, claramente, no entendía de qué trataban... Pero me postulé, canté y QUEDÉ. 

Después de meses de ensayo y un panic attack previo a la obra, en el cual le dije a mamá que no había modo que llegue a la nota alta de "Somewhere Over the Rainbow", me puse mi vestidito hecho por Vieji y las guillerminas que pintamos con mamá -colorados y bañados con purpurina- y dí lo mejor de mí. 

Pasé de ser la niña con los puntos al aire a flamante aspirante de Broadway en solo unos meses! Qué reivindicación, ¿no? :)

Siempre que estas chatitas rojas con glitter, recuerdo muchísimo lo que fue ese año y lo que significó para mí. Quería compartirlo con ustedes.

When I was 11 I changed schools so, naturally, being the "new girl" was quite the challenge. In my case it was even slightly harder, given something happened to me during summer. While I was at a friend´s birthday party I was bit by his dog... Where was I bit, you wonder?  The mouth... And yes, I imagine you cringing at the thought alone... especially if you get shocked easily when it comes to these types of injuries. But don´t worry... Thank God it wasn´t that bad and I was well taken care of at the hospital. The only issue that remained, to me, was that I would start attending class with visible sutures. This meant I could be exposed to being made fun of and feeling insecure... However, it wasn´t that bad and I managed to survive and avoid severe criticism. 

Now you might be wondering why I am blabbing about this... Let´s continue… A few months after class started, auditions for the school play, The Wizard of Oz, were announced. Now, I´m not sure who´s to blame here... If it was my popstar wannabe hunger inspired by Britney´s infectious venom or maybe it was Alanis Morissette, with her powerful songs, which inspired me... But I chose to audition for the role of Dorothy and I was chosen!!

Then, after months of rehearsal and a slight panic attack the very day of the play, in which I told my mom there was no way I would reach the high notes of "Somewhere over the rainbow" and maybe we should call the whole thing off, I wore my cute dress made by Vieji and my overly red and glittery shoes and gave it all I had. I remember feeling super nervous but, at the same time, like I belonged there.  

I went from being the new girl bit by a dog to superstellar broadway future applicant in just a few months... Talk about some vindication, right? ;)

Each time I wear these red glittery flats I´m reminded of that year and what it meant for me. I wanted to share it with you...

JUSTO + SUELTO

Uno de los recursos que más utilizo al momento de vestirme es el justo + suelto. De qué va esto? Ni toda apretada, ni toda suelta. Creo que alternar prendas en cuanto a su adhesión al cuerpo genera un balance muy positivo. Si uso un pantalón apretado, trato de relajar un poco con la parte de arriba y viceversa. Es una regla que no la aplico religiosamente todos los días, pero funciona en muchos casos... y el espejo siempre me lo confirma. 
Hoy les muestro estos pantalones nuevos de Zara de los cuales estoy totalmente enamorada! Son de una tela muy extraña que combina la rigidez con la flexibilidad y el color es fabuloso. A decir verdad son más de invierno que de verano... Pero no me pude resistir a usarlos este día. Aunque me guste mucho el verano, extraño un poco el invierno! Me imagino usando estos pantalones con unas botas lindas, una camisa y un buen sweater... 
En fin!

TIGHT + LOOSE

One of the things I doa lot when getting dressed is the "tight + loose" -it´s a thing, I swear- LOL. Now... what does this mean? I don´t wear only tight clothes or only loose clothes. I think that mixing it up creates a very uplifting balance. If i wear tight bottoms I go for something more distressed in the top and viceversa. I don´t apply this rule every day, but it works in many cases... and the mirror always confirms it.

Today I´m showing you these new pants from Zara and I must say I´m quite smitten with them! They are made of a very weird fabric that combines rigidity with flexibility and the color is just fabulous. To be honest with you, they are more apt for winter outfits... but I couldn´t resist it and just had to wear them that day. Despite the fact that I love summer, I miss winter a little! I can see myself wearing these pants with a nice pair of boots, a button down shirt and a chunky sweater... Sigh!
