BLUE POP

Uno de los colores que está pisando fuerte durante otoño/invierno es el azul klein… Un  tono de azul sin dudas bastante intenso y que me gusta mucho. En mi opinión creo que hay dos formas de llevarlo: 

• En prendas grandes como sweaters holgados o abrigos, así como también en vestidos estructurados  o de formas abstractas. De esa forma el azul es la pieza central del conjunto. 
• Otra forma de usarlo y de un modo un poco más convencional, es incorporarlo mediante accesorios para levantar un outfit, como hice hoy con esta pashmina. 

Hablando de pashminas, da la sensación que Italia es el lugar indicado para comprarlas. Cuando estuve en éste país por primera vez, de mochilera con una amiga allá por abril 2007, recuerdo perfectamente que me compré una blanca en Firenze. Era de una calidad increíble y la usé muchísimo hasta que se la regalé a mamá o se la adueñó, jaja no recuerdo exactamente ;).

  

La pashmina de hoy la compré en el mercado dominical de Via Portuense. Una experiencia imperdible si se visita Roma… Al mejor estilo feria, se ubican incontables puestos provisorios a lo largo de esa calle todos los domingos desde las 8:00 am hasta las 2:00 pm aprox. Se puede encontrar de todo para todos… Carteras, zapatos, productos de belleza y cuidado personal, DVDs, camperas de cuero, comida, ropa ultra barata, pañuelos y más! Lo mejor es recorrerla toda y regatear todos los precios. Si pagás el precio que te dicen, no estás haciendo las cosas bien. Yo soy bastante mala con ese tipo de negociaciones, pero creo que de a poco se va mejorando y puedo decir que al menos logré que me bajen hasta €4 un ítem. Voy a tratar de hacer un post o video en especial sobre este mercado, ya que creo que es algo interesante de compartir. Lo único malo es que siempre trabajo los domingos… Tal vez antes de irme de Roma tenga algún domingo libre. Veremos!

One of the colors that´s definitely making a statement this fall is klein blue… A very intense hue that I like very much. In my opinion I think there´s 2 good ways of wearing this color:

• In chunky pieces like sweaters or coats, or in structured dresses of bold shapes. That way the key to the outfit is the blue statement piece.
• Another way of wearing it and blending it in with your style in a more conventional fashion is by wearing accessories to add a pop of color to an outfit, like I did today with the scarf I have on. 

Talking about scarves, it seems that Italy is the right place to buy them. 
When I was here for the first time, back in April 2007 while backpacking with a friend, I remember perfectly well that I got a white one in Firenze. Its quality was very nice and I used it a lot up until I gave it to my mom or she decided to keep it, LOL i don´t really remember. ;)

The blue scarf I´m wearing today I got it at the sunday open market that´s held at Via Portuense. If you come to Rome I suggest you don´t miss out on the experience of going there. It opens every Sunday from 8:00am until 2:00pm and you can find pretty much anything over there… Shoes, bags, leather goods, food, cheap clothes, DVDs, beauty products and more! The best thing is to go around for a little bit first and then start buying stuff… And when you do make sure you bargain and get a lower price… They always tell you a higher price, knowing they´ll let it go for less. I´m not an expert at these kind of negotiations, but I feel pretty proud to say I got an item as much as €4 cheaper… I´ll try and do a separate post on this whole market experience, I think it´s an interesting thing to share. The only bad thing is that given I normally work on Sundays I don´t think I´ll have time to do it right now.. Maybe right before I leave. We´ll see!

Hace unos días Sorina, una chica que conocí acá en Bruselas, me preguntó sobre cómo se originan las tendencias. No entendía de dónde salía que un color, estampado, y/o textura se impusiera soberanamente sobre otros y sobresaliera más que nunca antes e invadiese de pronto el mercado. A lo que le comenté que entre los más grandes de la moda suele haber un consenso, acordado con mucha antelación sobre qué se va a usar en una determinada temporada, que incluye colores, texturas, siluetas, formas, etc. Claro está que cada maison después adapta el código conforme a su estructura, respetando su eje de diseño, su cliente, su calidad, etc. Luego, una vez que los grandes marcan el camino, empieza el efecto catarata, donde las tendencias que se postulan como más fuertes o populares empiezan a ser interpretadas por otras marcas, que de a poco le van bajando calidad, diseño y lo vuelven un producto masivo.

Tal es el caso de los buzos con estampa de animales… que empezó con Givenchy y sus Rottweilers y siguió con Kenzo y el buzo del tigre, o la parodia de las camisetas de diseñador como la de Celine, por nombrar algunos de los casos más emblemáticos.

Durante el último año he visto por todos lados a los felinos como grandes protagonistas… no sólo en buzos sino también bordados en zapatos, en simpáticos estampados y delineando accesorios.

Si bien soy más un dog-person me encantó ésta tendencia y me sumé con la compra de éste buzo. Como siempre, adaptándolo a mi estilo, clásico pero con un toque de color!

A few days ago Sorina, a girl I met here in Brussels, asked me about how fashion trends are originated. She didn´t comprehend how come some colors, textures and shapes stand out all at the same time, interpreted by different brands. So, I told her that, to my understanding, the big fashion houses agree on a certain code that will determine a certain season and that this is done way in advance. Then, once its decided, every maison adapts this to their own criteria, following the house´s guidelines, design structure, quality, and meeting customer expectations. Once the big names start to trace and show an aesthetic path, there are trends that stand out and become specially popular which of course is detected by the global market and that´s how those trends start making their way down to the mainstream clothing stores, compromising, of course quality and design, but giving you what you want.

Such was the case of the animal sweatshirts… they started with Givenchy´s Rottweiler, but continued with Kenzo´s tiger and why not with the fake design t-shirts like the Celine one, to just name a few of the main examples.

During the last year or so I´ve seen felines invade the fashion market… not only in sweatshirts, but also in shoes, on cute prints and shaping accessories.

While I´m more of a dog person I really liked this trend and decided to join by getting this sweatshirt I´m wearing today. Of course I had to adapt it to my own style, by keeping it classic and adding a pop of color!
